TU RISE Master by Research Scholarship
The Munster Technological University (MTU) is currently accepting applications for fully-funded master's scholarships starting in September 2025. This scholarship covers all expenses with a monthly stipend that will allow students to focus on their studies. Interested applicants should go through the guide below and submit an application before the deadline.
The MTU TU RISE Master by Research scholarship is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union under the ERDF Southern, Eastern, and Midland Regional Programmes 2021-27 and Northern and Western Regional Programmes 2021-27.
Project Details:
The MTU is accepting applications for a fully funded 2-year master's by research project as a full-time program of study. This Master's project, titled "Readiness and intention of farmers in coastal communities in southwest Ireland to embrace technological advances in working practices: A mixed-methods approach," is financed by MTU and TU RISE.
Background:
Technology is widely understood to be a non-neutral entity that has an impact on end users' daily lives. This is especially essential in rural communities. While technology has enormous safety, environmental, and efficiency benefits for the agricultural business, coupling an industry so entrenched in tradition with the complexity and frequently suspicion of technology presents a number of obstacles.
Project Title: "Readiness and intention of farmers in coastal communities in southwest Ireland to embrace technological advances in working practices: A mixed-methods approach"
Aim of the Study:
The purpose of this study is to investigate farmers' preparedness and intention to adopt technological developments in coastal villages in southwest Ireland.
Methodology Adopted for this Study:
To fulfill project objectives, the study uses a variety of methodologies, including voluntary/snowball sampling. Quantitative data on farmers' preparedness to use technology will be collected using Parasuraman's Technology Readiness Index (TRI2) (Parasuraman and Colby 2015), while subsequent focus groups will provide a qualitative insight into farmers' intentions.
Contribution of the Project to Knowledge/Wider Outcomes:
It is envisaged that the study outcomes will identify practical and accessible strategies to enhance farmer engagement with AgriTech solutions, thereby supporting policy development, responsible innovation, and climate-smart agricultural practices. The interdisciplinary focus of the project and supporting supervisory team ensure both a robust research programme for the student and further enhancement of research capacity within MTU and the Southern region.
Requirements for the TU RISE Scholarship:
- The successful candidate should be self-motivated with enthusiasm to develop interdisciplinary technical skills. They should have an interest in and an aptitude for mixed-methods research, in the context of technology application. Academic study or practical experience in agriculture is desirable, along with strong communication skills.
- Applicants must possess an Honours Bachelor's Degree (Level 8) with a performance equivalent to at least a second-class honours in a relevant field of study from a recognised degree-awarding institution or university.
- For applicants whose first language is not English, the English language requirements accepted by MTU for entry into postgraduate studies are published on their website and can be accessed by CLICKING HERE.

This master's by research programme must start in September 2025. The student will be based primarily at MTU North Campus. The student will be registered at MTU, working under the supervision of Dr Anna-Marie Greaney, MTU, in association with Dr Bobby Woods, Dr Dawn Farrell, and Mr Kieran O'Donoghue (MTU). The Master Scholar is required to spend at least 12 weeks on placement with an enterprise partner within the 24-month term of their master's by research programme.
