Breaking: Why Nana Agradaa Was Sentenced to 15 Years with Hard Labour by the Accra Circuit Court

The Circuit Court in Accra has found Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, guilty of different actions carried out by her on several occasions, such as defrauding by false pretenses and pretentious advertising.  As a result, the Circuit Court judge finally made a pronouncement, sentencing Nana Agradaa to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour starting in July 2025.

The Circuit Court stated that Nana Agradaa deceitfully promoted a televised “money-doubling” scam in 2022 that led the members of her church in Weija to turn up substantial sums of money under false pretenses.

The Circuit Court also charged Agradaa with pretentious advertisement and false pretense as a result of her public TV broadcast, where she promoted her money-doubling scam.

As part of the legal process, a pregnancy test was conducted on her to confirm whether she was pregnant or not before sentencing her for 15 years with hard labour. The test result was negative, and hence paved the way for the sentencing to take place.

Reasons Why Nana Agradaa Was Sentenced to 15 Years With Hard Labour

Below are the reasons why Patricia Asiedua (Nana Agradaa) was sentenced by the Accra Circuit Court:

1. Pretentious Advertisement

Nana Agradaa publicly televised/broadcast a money-doubling scam in 2022, claiming she had supernatural/spiritual powers to double money, using the church and social media platforms.

She promoted this during a heavily attended all-night church service at her Weija-based ministry (Godsway International Heaven Church), her message encouraged dangerously false hopes of miraculous wealth in people.

2. Defrauding by False Pretence

Nana Agradaa successfully influenced viewers and her church members to hand over large sums of money, believing it would be doubled at the end, but it all ended up as promises that were never true. The court found that she deliberately deceived individuals for personal monetary gain, falling squarely under Ghana’s criminal code against fraud.

3. Legal Process and Sentencing

Agradaa was found guilty by the Accra Circuit Court, which was presided over by Judge Evelyn Asamoah, on charges of pretentious advertisement and defrauding by false pretences. The Court followed standard procedure for women of reproductive age by ordering a pregnancy test before sentencing her. Since the test returned negative, the court imposed a 15-year sentence with hard labour.

Undoubtedly, netizens reacted that this judgment marks a major legal milestone in Ghana’s democratic and constitutional efforts to crack down on fraudulent spiritual schemes and reinforces the legal boundaries protecting the public from deceptive religious practices. Others asserted that this will go a long way to teach others a lesson.

There are still many of her type broadcasting on radio and TV stations, promoting scams and money rituals. These people should also be brought to book. We need a strong judicial system and security that will help identify these scrupulous acts and bring perpetrators to book to make the country safe and peaceful for everyone.

Others, upon reacting to this matter, expressed their disappointment in the judicial system for taking too long to pass judgment on this case and urged that a swift judgment should be given to cases like this to deter others from committing similar acts.
